PETERBOROUGH will hope their season turns full-circle when they host Premiership leaders Swindon at the East of England Arena on Monday (7.30pm).
The Crendon Panthers’ last victory of the league campaign came on the occasion of the Robins’ previous visit on June 20 - and it turned out to be one of the most extraordinary meetings of the year.
Peterborough were outgunned in the early stages and trailed by eight points after Heat 6 - but then they turned things around in pulsating fashion to win 50-40 and leave the Wiltshire side stunned.
And with Panthers appearing now to be tracking their strongest line-up for several weeks, another tremendous contest is in prospect.
British Champion Charles Wright is back from concussion and makes his first appearance at home since clinching the national title, whilst Scott Nicholls returns from suspension.
Skipper Hans Andersen has been declared fit to ride despite his horror crash last Thursday – and although Jason Garrity is serving a mandatory absence due to illness, Panthers have moved to bring in Ryan Douglas to guest at reserve.
The Wolverhampton rider has often shown a liking for the Alwalton circuit and contributed 12+1 when his regular side won there in July.
Swindon have secured their play-off place with a run of emphatic home wins and a series of points on their travels, along with a win at Ipswich last month.
They top the table by one point going into the meeting but need more points on the road to stay there, with Poole having two home matches in hand.
Former World Champion Jason Doyle spearheads the Robins, who include a trio of ex-Peterborough riders in Troy Batchelor, Ellis Perks and Claus Vissing.
Peterborough boss Carl Johnson said: “It’s going to be another tough meeting. They lost on Thursday at Ipswich, but we know how good they are around here.
“But we’re back to virtually our own one-to-seven, and as long as Hans is OK and can put in a performance, we just hopefully need Ty (Proctor) to score a few points and get his confidence up.
“I’m sure we’re in for a cracking match and I hope the supporters will turn out in big numbers. With the way we rode on Thursday (against Belle Vue) and what’s coming on Monday, I think it will be a fantastic meeting.”
The meeting is Panthers’ penultimate home match of the season, as they wrap up against Wolverhampton on Tuesday September 17.
