HARRIS REVEALS TOUGH TIME

Thursday November 05, 2020
PANTHERS star Chris Harris has revealed how his wife has had to go back to work to support the family after the loss of a full league season.

Harris enjoyed a few outings towards the end of the campaign with the British Final and two other events staged by Belle Vue behind closed doors.

But the loss of income with Peterborough effectively closed down for a year has put pressure on his young family and the finances.

He revealed: “Instead of my usual busy schedule, I’ve spent all my time changing nappies!

“The focus has been making memories with the family and just making the best of everything.

“It’s been difficult. We’ve been living off my wife’s wages - she’s had to go back to work early following a year off after maternity leave.

“I want to lose some weight and get a lot fitter ahead of next year. Obviously lockdown has been challenging to keep fit.

“I’ve got a lot of things I want to achieve for next year and training will start from now.

“Hopefully fans will be back at football in the new year and that will enable us to open up with Peterborough on time for a full season in 2021.”

All seven top flight clubs have signalled their intention to be at the tapes again next year and club bosses are already working on a potential fixture list.

In line with other sports like lower level Rugby League including the likes of Bradford Bulls and York City Knights, speedway is planning to launch the 2021 season in April subject to fans returning to venues. Behind closed doors racing is not an option although a live streaming service proved popular in the Belle Vue events.

Peterborough Speedway remain thankful to both Crendon Timber and City Auction Group for their ongoing support.
