THE WAIT GOES ON

PETERBOROUGH co-promoter Colin Pratt remains optimistic that a meaningful Premiership season can take place in 2020.

The experienced Crendon Panthers chief accepts that no firm decisions can be taken until the current lockdown and other government restrictions designed to limit the spread of coronavirus are lifted.

But he has confirmed talks have already taken place with the club’s landlords from the East of England Arena, as should racing be able to resume this year there will need to be extensive modifications to the fixture list.

One potential solution to be mooted around the sport is the possibility of extending the season into November, should that be a viable way of completing the schedule.

Panthers were one of a handful of clubs who did manage to stage press and practice last month, albeit without a full team present, and that simply added to the anticipation for the 2020 campaign when it gets going.

Pratt said: “It’s impossible to put any firm plans in place for the speedway season until the current restrictions are lifted and once that happens, everyone will work together and see what we can come up with.

“Obviously we would hope that once it is safe to do so, everyone will be keen to get out and watch our sport.

“But I was pleased we got press and practice on. Although only four of our riders were able to make it with Hans (Andersen) and Ulrich (Ostergaard) in Denmark, and Rohan (Tungate) in Poland it was still a very worthwhile day, and it was great to see our sponsors and supporters there.”

Supporters can catch up with the thoughts of Pratt, co-promoter Carl Johnson, team manager Rob Lyon and Panthers star Chris Harris in the second issue of the club’s season delay programme.

Priced at £2.25 plus postage and packing, it can be ordered online via curtis-sport.com for delivery over the Easter weekend.

PETERBOROUGH SPEEDWAY are delighted to be supported by Crendon Timber Engineering as main team sponsors and City Auction Group as club sponsors.
