DANISH superstar Niels-Kristian Iversen is on his way back to Peterborough as the club’s No.1 rider.
The Grand Prix regular last rode for the Crendon Panthers back in 2010, having been a title-winner at the East of England Arena four years earlier.
The majority of his UK racing since then has been with rivals King’s Lynn, whilst individually he has won five GPs and has twice finished in the World’s top four.
Iversen said: “I’m really pleased to be returning to Peterborough, I’ve lived in the area for the last ten years so it’s all worked out.
“It’s going to be a busy season for me but I seem to be successful when I’m busy, so let’s see how it all works out.
“I think we have a good team, and we have a chance of being successful if we can all find our best form.
“The fixture list looks good, it’s going to be a busy start for us so we need to hit the ground running.
“I’m preparing for the new season riding in various leagues and I’m really looking forward to it.
“I have great memories from my time at Peterborough, who can forget that league title in the final against Reading in 2006? That was amazing, but it’s a long time ago now!”
Co-promoter Carl Johnson admits it’s a relief that extensive efforts to sign an out-and-out No.1 have proved successful – and he feels that the City Auction Group-backed club can now look forward to an exciting season.
Johnson said: “We’ve been talking to Niels for a long while, and it’s been all about trying to fit everything in around his dates.
“I know there have been other names bandied around over the last couple of weeks, and yes we have had talks with certain riders.
“But Niels was always going to be our first choice if we could get him, and I’m delighted to have him on board.
“I’m very happy with the team that we’ve put together. I think it’s a fantastic side, and I can’t see how anyone will be disappointed with it.
“I said from day one that we wanted a team of riders who are fans’ favourites and who can ride the Showground, and with the six named so far I think we’ve done that.
“It’s a team that everyone knows and can relate to, and Rob (Lyon) has worked with most of them in the past, so it’s good for him too.”
Iversen’s signing means Panthers have one rider to confirm for the new season – and plans are also advanced for the 50th Anniversary meeting which opens the campaign on Sunday March 15 (2pm).
All of the Panthers regulars are expected to take part along with several former favourites, in an event which will take place over a Grand Prix-style format with two semi-finals and a Final to determine the winner.
PETERBOROUGH SPEEDWAY are delighted to be supported by Crendon Timber as main team sponsors and City Auction Group as club sponsors.
