IT’S a big week for Peterborough Speedway as the team returns home to launch a spell of three home meetings to end their first season back in the top division.

And whilst it’s been a rough and rocky ride, club owner Keith Chapman insists he has ‘no regrets’ about taking on the challenge of keeping the city side on track.

Now he wants to see a show of support from fans for the final weeks of the campaign – starting against Belle Vue on Thursday.

“We need to see supporters backing the team,” he said. “It just seems everything has gone against us with injuries and illness this season and Carl (Johnson) has had his work cut out to keep things moving along.

“It’s not been ideal having so long without a home meeting and this is the week we’ve been waiting for since July. Ideally we would have liked a couple of home meetings in August but that wasn’t possible because of how busy the Showground is.

“We have got some important meetings remaining. Hopefully we will have the date for the final meeting with Wolverhampton soon but for now we have to focus on Thursday against Belle Vue who really need to win.

“We also have Swindon on September 9 and we are facing up to some really important meetings. Hopefully we will have a great atmosphere with our fans getting right behind Carl and the boys. We’re looking forward to getting back home.”
